Myth Village

Myth Village is a narrative-based intervention that harnesses the power of storytelling, folklore, and myth to help individuals redefine their perceptions of self, process life events, and build social connection. Rooted in expressive arts therapy and cultural storytelling traditions, Myth Village provides a safe and imaginative space where participants can explore their experiences through a third-person perspective, a technique known as "decoupling." This allows them to communicate personal stories indirectly, fostering self-reflection, healing, and new perspectives.

Designed as a flexible and adaptable tool, Myth Village can be used in various settings, including peacebuilding, conflict mediation, behavioral change interventions, and psychosocial support programs. By drawing on shared cultural narratives, it creates opportunities for participants to identify commonalities, challenge harmful behavioral norms, and foster reconciliation in divided communities.

The program is delivered in two phases. The first is an interactive workshop where participants explore traditional myths and personal storytelling, connecting past narratives with present realities. Sessions incorporate soundscapes, movement, and collective listening, using rhythm and embodiment as essential tools for emotional processing and social cohesion. The second phase culminates in a community storytelling performance, where participants share their experiences in an open, fire-lit circle, inviting elders, youth, and the wider community to contribute through spoken word, dance, rap, or traditional performance styles. These gatherings not only preserve cultural heritage but also strengthen solidarity, identity, and collective healing, particularly in communities affected by displacement and conflict.
